Il ouvre un champ d'investigations dont l’utilité et la fécondité ne sont pas suffisamment mises en avant dans les travaux lexicographiques. Il est vrai qu’il existe de nombreuses études scientifiques qui traitent cette problématique, mais leur majorité est focalisée sur une perspective nationale, monolingue, alors que les études contrastives, qui s’intéresse à deux ou plusieurs langues proches ou éloignées, sont à ce jour assez rares.
