Les auteurs ont voulu étendre la thématique à toute la période française, élargir les sujets au-delà de l&#8217;histoire militaire, et donc réunir &#60;strong&#62;Les Amis de la citadelle de Namur &#60;/strong&#62;et &#60;strong&#62;La Société royale Sambre et Meuse&#60;/strong&#62;. Ces associations sont fortes de spécialistes de l&#8217;histoire militaire, de l&#8217;histoire judiciaire, de l&#8217;histoire du paysage urbain, de l&#8217;histoire institutionnelle, d&#8217;autres plus concernés directement par la période française.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Il est question des aspects militaires &#8211; fortification, sièges et combats, mais également de la vie militaire par le biais de la prostitution -, de l&#8217;urbanisme et de l&#8217;architecture, de la représentation écrite et figurée du paysage, des institutions politiques locales et de leur impact sur la société, de la justice dans sa matérialité et des prisons, des occupations russe et prussienne, tous sujets nouvellement traités d&#8217;après des sources inédites issues des &#60;strong&#62;dépôts d&#8217;archives belges et français.&#60;/strong&#62; Les faisceaux de licteurs de la République et l&#8217;aigle de l&#8217;Empire sont ainsi en filigrane de l&#8217;histoire locale dans les pages de cet ouvrage.
